Pool Opening Chemical Treatment

For Chlorine (including Salt and Nature II) and Bromine Sanitation Systems

Day 1

  1. Add Stain and Scale Control (100 mL per 10,000 L of pool water) by slowly pouring it around the perimeter of the pool water. Wait 1 hour to let it circulate.
  2. Shock the pool with non-chlorine based Oxidizer (1 kg per 75,000 L of pool water) and then wait 3 hours.
  3. Balance the pool water to:
  • pH: 7.2 – 7.6
  • Calcium hardness: 200 – 350 ppm
  • Total alkalinity: 80 – 120

If applicable, install your Nature II cartridge. Note: You must replace the Nature II Cartridge at the start of each season.

  1. Establish the recommended sanitizing level by applying an unstabilized granular or liquid chlorine

Add HTH Extra: broadcast 65g per 10,000 L. Test after 10 minutes, and if levels are below 1.0 ppm, repeat until 1.0 ppm is obtained.

OR Add Unstabilized Liquid Chlorine: add 1 L of liquid chlorine per 10,000 L of pool water. Test after 10 minutes: if levels are below 1.0 ppm, repeat until 1.0 ppm is obtained.

Day 2

  1. Add 40% Algaecide (100 mL per 10,000 L of pool water) by slowly pouring it around the perimeter of the pool water. Wait 1 hour to let it circulate
  2. Start up the chemical feeder on its medium setting. Wait 24 hours, then test your water and adjust chemical feeder output as necessary.

For Nature II Pools: Circulate the pool 24 hours for the first 4 days with a chlorine level over 1 ppm. After 4 days, allow the chlorine level to drop to 0.6 ppm. After this, your pool should circulate for no more than 12 hours a day.

For Bromine Pools: Once your pool water is balanced, start up the automatic brominating system. You will need to dissolve 25 grams of bromine per 10,000 L of water per day for proper sanitation to be achieved.
