Creative and Alternative Uses for Pool Noodles

Creative and Alternative Uses for Pool Noodles

When most people think of pool noodles, the first thing that comes to mind is swimming - but did you know that there are several other creative and alternative uses for these versatile products? Here are just a few of the many fun and interesting other ways you can use your pool noodles at home, outside of the pool!

Filling Gaps in Doors: during the harsh, cold Canadian Winters, your home can feel colder than usual as a result of drafts coming through doors, especially older ones. Due to the flexible, almost spongy nature of pool noodles, they can be easily placed between your doors and your flooring to close gaps and keep the heat in!

Protecting Your Car While Parking: if your garage is a bit tight, you might find yourself struggling to keep your car door from swinging open too far and getting dinged on your garage wall. To protect your doors in a tight parking spot, cut a pool noodle in half and mount it to your wall - the spongy noodle will act as a padded garage bumper, keeping your door scratch, dent-and ding-free!

Keeping Plants Growing Upwards: although you probably don't think a pool noodle would be much use in the garden, you'd be surprised! Simply cut a pool noodle to match the height of your plants, slit open one side to allow it to slide on and off, and then slide the noodle around the stem of the plant. The noodle will hold the plant in place, allowing it to grow upright without wilting or falling over!

Making a DIY Ice Rink in Your Backyard: you might have seen one of the many expensive, do-it-yourself home ice hockey rink kits while shopping at some point - well, with just a box of pool noodles and a tarp, you can save yourself some hard-earned cash and get the same rink experience! Lay the tarp down (optionally, you can use stakes to hold the edges of it in place) and then place the noodles around the "rink". Flood the rink surface, and wait for it to freeze. Once done, the noodles will act as your back boards and bumpers, outlining the play surface! You can also bend 2 un-cut noodles, and place them at either end of the rink to act as a goal net.
