NorthFlo variable speed heat pumps utilize the newest technology available in the heat pump industry. Their variable speed compressor allows it to modulate its operating speed from 20% to 100%, offering you the lowest operating cost, a stronger average COP (coefficient of performance), a more silent product, and even more great benefits!

NorthFlo 90,000 BTU heat pumps are the perfect choice for above ground pools up to 30 feet in size, and inground pools up to 16 x 32 feet in size (or 105,000 litres in volume). Note: heater efficiency and output may vary, depending on operating conditions.

Features:

  • Output: 90,000 BTU heat pump with titanium heat exchanger, 1.5 inch PVC union inlet/outlet, and black/green high durability ABS cabinet (208 - 230 V / Single Phase / 60 Hz Power Required)
  • Inverter Powered Compressor: reduces operating costs by up to 50% over the course of a typical season (compared to traditional heat pump technology)
  • Digital Controller: easily set and control your unit, with simple, fully digital temperature controls
  • Environmentally Friendly: NorthFlo heat pumps are equipped with eco-friendly R410 gas refrigerant
  • Dimensions: 37.8 Inches x 16.5 Inches x 25.9 Inches
  • Drain: Features a drip tray drain and gravity-draining water lines
  • Other Industry Leading Features: A stronger COP with an average of 8 (compared to 5 with traditional heat pump technology), seriously silent operating noise levels (as low as 48 db) and soft start functionality that lowers electrical demand and increases unit durability and lifespans, all work together to position NorthFlo VS heat pumps as one of the best in the industry

This unit is not compatible with soft-sided pools (Intex, Coleman, Bestway) due to insufficient flow rate. Installing this unit on a soft-sided pool voids product warranty.

Warranty Coverage: At the manufacturer's discretion. Limited warranty covers replacement parts and labour if the heater is installed with a pool or spa. The Applicable Warranty Period is two (2) years from the Purchase Date for labour, two (2) years from the Purchase Date for parts and five (5) years on the Titanium Heat Exchanger. The warranty does not cover damage caused by improper water chemistry. The warranty will be void if the heater is not installed by a licensed technician, or the heater has been installed on a soft sided pool. Please see product manual for specific warranty details.

Also purchased in mid-May 2025, and installed June 14th. Installation was fairly straight forward and a new power line was run from the panel to an outside SPA box with the required GFI and then to the heat pump. We use TECK90-10/3 Wire as we could direct bury the line to the heat pump. The unit came online without issues, connected to the WiFi and the app on my phone without issue. Our pool is a 24 foot round dug down in the center, with approximately 50K liters of water, in Southern Ontario. Spring temps are unusually colder both days and nights this year and on running the heat pump initially the water was at 70F(21C). After a 24hr cycle the heat pump was able to bring the pool temperature up to 83F(28C). We are maintaining the heat by keeping a solar blanket on the pool at all times. Using my google outdoor plug for the pool pump and using the app to set a schedule for the heat pump it is now running at about 80% capacity thru the night from 8pm to 4am to maintain our heat setting. It runs very quietly even at 100% capacity, our neighbors are not even aware it is running. There are two other terminal on the heat pump unit that are very poorly documented in any of the manuals and trying to get help has been even more painful. The support for this product is very poor and you are not able to talk to the manufacturer as all references and help come back to Pool Supplies Canada. We are 5 days after the installation after having an electrician on site for the hookup and I still do now have answers. But in another review on this product has given me more insight into what those other terminals are for. " but it is essentially a 24VAC signal (think typical household thermostat control) that tells the heat pump to run or not. Set the desired pool water temperature on the heat pump, and let the pool pump control whether it can run or not. (Interlock the two) " We are happy overall with the investment and how the unit has preformed but I think now i need to research how or what a 24VAC is and how I can do the same thing so in those off chances when a google WiFi plug doesn't work I want the heat pump unit to know to not run, know that there is a build in safety for water flow.

Purchased in mid-May, and installed before the end of the month. Arrived via Fedex transport, and the driver was able to drop the unit in the garage to keep it out of the weather before installation. Installation was fairly straight forward. A new power line was run from the panel. We put the required GFI in a sub-panel closer to the heat pump, and used 8 AWG /4 wires due to the distance from the panel. With lots of mis-information out there, be assured you WILL require a GFI breaker if you are installing anywhere near the pool. Even if you don't think you need it, just do it for the added safety. The unit came online without issues, connected to the WiFi and the app on my phone without issue. (More about this later) The weather had been cool for the last while, so it was a good test to see what it could handle. The pool is 24 foot round, with about 50K liters of water, in Southern Ontario. At 17C outdoors, it was able to raise the pool temperature from 17C (63F) to about 22C (71F) in about ten hours. The next few days were also cool, and running the unit about eight hours a day, with a solar blanket installed brought the pool up to 27C (80F). Since then the weather during the day has been above 20C (68F), and the heat pump has been able to maintain 29C (86F) running about five hours a day, at about 80% capacity at the beginning and dropping down to about 0%-20% to maintain. It runs very quietly even at 100% capacity, so if shouldn't bother the neighbours. The app on your phone, called 'Inverter Life' in my case, is a re-brand of several apps out there that basically all manage this particular manufacturer's re-branded heat pumps., (see Moov, Fairchild, etc.) The app will also control a pool timer if it is Wifi enabled. We replaced our existing manual timer with a WiFi enable unit (see Dewenwills Etc. on Amazon as an example), and have it switch the control wire on the heat pump to be sure the water is moving before the pump can run. The control wire is poorly documented in any of the manuals, but it is essentially a 24VAC signal (think typical household thermostat control) that tells the heat pump to run or not. Set the desired pool water temperature on the heat pump, and let the pool pump control whether it can run or not. (Interlock the two) Set up a schedule of the pool pump and then have the heater turn on five minutes after the pool pump has been running, to be sure the water temp the heater sees is close to actual, and then use the schedule on the heat pump app, to turn the heat pump on after the pool pump is running and off again before the pool pump turns off. Be aware that the heat pump has a three minute lag in starting, and takes about a minute or so to completely shutdown, as it cools the heat exchanger. Overall, it's been an excellent addition to the pool, and we are enjoying the 28C (86F) water even on days when it isn't really pool weather. We'll now wait and see if the manufacturer's good reputation for these units holds up, but so far we are pleased overall.

Excellent pool heater. Raised temperature 18 degrees in less than 24 hours. Easy installation and runs very quiet. I highly recommend this product along with the staff at Pool Supplies especially Carl, who went above and beyond.

Bought this in March and just had it installed this past weekend. Pool is inground, 16x32 80,000L. Very happy with the performance so far. At first startup on Sunday, the thermostat read 66F. After an hour it was at 67F. By the next morning it was up to 71F, and with the help of the recent Ontario heat-wave it was at 78F by Monday evening. I had it set to 82F from the get-go just to see how long it would take, and by Tuesday morning I noticed the fan was off and it had reached 82F. I'm in Northern Ontario, so I'm hoping this will extend our swimming season without needing a wheelbarrow full of cash nearby to shovel into the old NG heater.

This unit is really pretty cool. I love how is mananages the compressor speed intelligently once it reaches the set temperature.

ERIK - June 29th

Purchased this product this year and have installed. Have it running now for 6 hours and increased the pool water 4 degrees so far. Very quiet
